The Carrera is the name given to a chronograph series introduced by Tag Heuer in 1963/1964 that has achieved extremely high recognition worldwide. The name Carrera is inspired by the legendary Rallye Carrera Panamericana car race. The first model, the Carrera 12, cost 420 German marks in the 1960s. With the Carrera Calibre 1887, the watch received a new mechanical movement and a new appearance in 2010. The name 1887 commemorates the year in which company founder Edouard Heuer received the patent for an important mechanism in his movement as a manufacturer. A new model of the Tag Heuer Carrera now costs over 4,000 euros. The purist design of the original watches from 1964, without any scales, is in high demand today. The Calibre 1887 now features a tachymeter so that speeds can be read off the edge of the black dial. The model has a case diameter of 41 mm and a lug width of 20 mm.
