The first Grand Seiko was introduced to the market in 1960. It was based on intensive research and development with the goal of producing the most accurate and durable mechanical wristwatch possible. The first caliber 3180 had an accuracy of +12 and -3 seconds per day, which was excellent for the 1960s. Buoyed by the success of the first Grand Seiko, the 44GS was launched in 1967. At the time, it boasted the highest precision of any hand-wound mechanical watch in the world, making the Grand Seiko a true icon. Since then, the movement has been continually refined in terms of accuracy, durability, and power reserve to exceed the highest standards. In the 1990s, the new Grand Seiko 9S passed the tests of the official Swiss chronometer testing institute COSC and achieved a power reserve of 72 hours (3 days) as early as 2006. Thanks to continuous development, the Grand Seiko's mechanical 9S caliber is one of the finest mechanical movements in the world.
The Grand Seiko is an icon in the watch world, and not just from a mechanical perspective. Its design has always appealed to watch lovers, captivating them with its uncompromisingly simple style. Equally simple watch straps can be perfectly combined with the Grand Seiko. The brown patina-brown leather strap doesn't detract from the watch's unique design with either eye-catching stitching or an elaborate pattern. Rather, it underscores the distinctive history of this icon in authentic vintage style. Depending on the color of the dial or hands, a color-coordinated suede watch strap can also be perfectly combined with the Grand Seiko.
