The SEIKO 5 was developed in Japan in 1963 with an automatic movement. Launched under the name SEIKO Sportmatic 5, it was the first mechanical watch with a day and date display to come from Japan. Even back then, its name hinted at the watch's sporty yet simple design, which is still considered timelessly elegant today. The number "5" has remained in the name of the mechanical watch since the 1960s. According to SEIKO, it stands for five features that every watch in this series offers: an automatic movement, a day and date display, a crown at the unusual 4 o'clock position, water resistance, and a robust watch suitable for sporting activities. Since then, the watch's appearance has been updated and redesigned several times, but its popularity seems to have suffered none the less. The SEIKO 5 Sports, which has been around since 1968, is in particular in demand worldwide. It has been enhanced with a harder crystal, increased water resistance, luminous indices, and a new sporty design with a unidirectional rotating bezel. The current SEIKO 5 Sports models feature the automatic caliber 4R36 with a 41-hour power reserve.
There are now 27 different versions of the SEIKO 5 Sports in five styles and various colors. The watch strap can be combined depending on the color variant. For example, the high-quality Fir-Green NATO strap in dark green complements the watch perfectly. The Dyster-Blue NATO strap also looks great with the popular SEIKO 5 Sports style with its blue dial. Those who prefer a more elegant look can wear the dark blue Midnight-Blue leather watch strap with their watch.
