The legendary IWC Portugieser Chronograph is said to have been created in the late 1930s. After IWC Schaffhausen had developed the first so-called Special watch for pilots in 1936, the company turned its attention to the Portugieser. It is said that Portuguese importers Teixeira and Rodriguez gave the impetus to company management: their customers wanted a large and precise men's wristwatch with a steel case. In principle, a simple customer request that is still widespread today. IWC engineers took a flat, hand-wound mechanical movement from the company's pocket watch range and placed it in a classic steel case. With its sleek silver dial and small seconds hand, the Portugieser quickly became a bestseller in both Western and Eastern Europe. Even today, the IWC Portugieser Chronograph retains timeless design elements of the original wristwatch, such as the large, sleek stainless steel case and hands. The diameter is 41 mm, and the watch has a 20 mm lug width.
The gold-colored indices of the dial go particularly well with a beige or cream-colored watch strap, such as the Sand-beige suede braceletA great highlight with vintage character is the Chocolate-Grey leather bracelet with a pin buckle on the stainless steel Portuguese. Whether it's an IWC Portuguese automatic or a chronograph, with the most common strap widths of 18 mm, 20 mm, and 22 mm, as well as clasps in silver, rose gold, gold, or black, you'll find the perfect watch strap for your model.
