In 1952, the Breitling Navitimer was launched as a pilot's watch. The name originated from the innovative mechanism that enabled pilots to look up complicated navigational calculations on their watches. The Breitling brand itself described its Navitimers in advertising as a personal onboard instrument for the pilot. In the 1950s, the Navitimer eliminated the need for numerous calculations with paper and pencil in the cockpit. Pilots could use the watch to perform, among other things, multiplications, calculate fuel consumption, convert nautical miles into land miles, and calculate distances for ascent and landing. The same highly functional calculation function remains an important component of the watch to this day. The Navitimer now features a manufacture caliber (movement) developed and manufactured by Breitling. The case diameter is 43 mm and has a lug for Bracelets with 22 mm Width.
