about the Rolex Milgauss
The Rolex Milgauss was originally developed for scientists who come into contact with magnetic fields. Mechanical watches are susceptible to magnetic fields in excess of approximately 50 gauss, depending on the shielding of the case and the magnetic properties of individual parts of the movement. Gauss is the official unit of measure for the strength of magnetic fields. If individual parts of a clockwork are magnetically charged, the accuracy of the clockwork can be significantly impaired. In such a case, degaussing by a watchmaker usually helps. In the event of regular contact or exposure to very strong magnetic fields, the movement can be permanently damaged. For this reason, Rolex has developed a watch whose mechanical movement can withstand a considerable force of up to 1,000 gauss without being affected. According to Rolex, the Milgauss model is the first watch that can be used in a field of up to 1,000 gauss. The movement is shielded by a special ferromagnetic alloy. This special property qualifies the watch for use, for example, by scientists from the European Organization for Nuclear Research at CERN in Switzerland.
What is also special about the Rolex Milgauss is the green sapphire glass in combination with a blue dial. Not only leather straps in shades of green, but also watch straps in a blue shade can be combined with the watch. Our Sommar-Blue suede strap, for example, goes perfectly with the so-called Z-blue dial of the Milgauss. The Aventy-Green suede watch strap, in turn, emphasizes the green tone of the sapphire glass. If you prefer a simpler style, a black or gray watch strap is a good choice, such as the mountain gray leather strap with a noble matt finish of Italian calfskin.
