About the Zenith el Primero

The Zenith El Primero is a famous watch known for its high precision and quality. The history of the clock goes back to year 1969, when Zenith introduced a revolutionary new watch equipped with an automatic chronograph movement.

The El Primero caliber was the first movement to operate at a vibration frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour. This allowed the watch to Accuracy of 1/10 second achieve and was thus the most precise serial chronograph of its time. The El Primero was also the first chronograph movement capable of starting and stopping the stopwatch function without delay. Although the El Primero movement was a breakthrough in watchmaking, Zenith struggled to keep its watchmaking production viable in the years that followed. In the 1970s, Zenith was acquired by the Swiss company Movado, which decided to end production of the El Primero.

However, some of the last El Primero movement productions were saved by Zenith employee Charles Vermot by hiding the tools and machinery in a basement to save them from destruction. This decision later turned out to be wise, since the El Primero re-entered the market in the 1980s was brought and experienced a renaissance. Since then, the El Primero has become one of the most well-known and sought-after chronograph movements, used in a wide variety of watch models. Today, the Zenith El Primero is known for its high precision, durability and exceptional performance, making it a favorite among watch enthusiasts around the world.
